My role for this show was programmer, as well as figuring out all of the set electrics. This being my first time in this role, someone else prepped all of the paperwork, however all of the other electrics duties fell to me. I was nervous for my first time in the room with the LD, however those concerns were for naught as that day I proved to myself that I am a more competent programmer than I thought I was.
My biggest hurdle for the show, was indeed the set electrics. The director insisted on having 2 fires on stage, a barrel and a fire pit, at all times throughout the show, and it was up to me to discover how to do that. The barrel was easy enough, since it was on a raised platform we just made a hole in the set, put a fogger under there, hooked it up with PVC, and then dressed the inside of the barrel with LED tape. The fire pit however, was a different story. The fire pit was about 2'6" in diameter with a depth of about 8". The LED tape was fine enough, just a little cramped, although we didn't have a fogger anywhere near the size to fit in there, so we ordered a new one that would fit. The fogger we got fit incredibly snug, however I had to mask it. This was a challenge because masking the fogger would in turn then mask the LED tape. The final product ended up being a mix between some blacktak from lighting and a fire pit cover & some wood from props. How we dressed it hid the electrics fine, however if I had the chance to redo this project in a more efficient manner, I would.
