"The Drowsy Chaperone" was the first musical I designed in my collegiate lighting design career. Not having designed a musical in over two years at that point in time, I had many hurdles to overcome. I experimented a lot with all aspects of the design for this show, and was successful in many of aspects. With that success though, I also had a lot of learning moments. I discovered things such as what to look for when drafting a plot, how certain systems can interact with one another, and most importantly, cementing my role as the lighting designer in the rehearsal room.
I was also my own Production Electrician for this show, as I did not have one, so all of those duties fell upon me. My changeover into tech was also within a 24 hour period! So basically, I hung, focused, designed, and programmed an entire musical within the span of 5 - 6 days, which I am incredibly proud of.
